Gap analysis ISO 45001 to OHSAS 18001

Tamara Parris

During our member discussion hosted by Intelex "ISO 45001: Tips for preparing your team to become certified" we shared how the ISO 45001 and OHSAS 18001 differ.

As promised to a number of you, attached to this post is an OHSAS 18001 and ISO 45001 gap analysis table to provide a summary for everyone to review.

@peterdavis @petereliasalouche @scottgaddis did you have any suggestions to share with other members when comparing standards?

Yes, BSI Group has something called "Transition Kits" for various standards including ISO 45001.  I recommend downloading the PDF from this link - https://www.bsigroup.com/en-CA/forms/ohsas-forms/45001-document-download... The file is called ISO 45001 DIS 2 Mapping Guide.  Included is a comparison of OHSAS 18001 versus ISO 45001 as well as reasons why organizations should transition to ISO 45001.

In addition, I would recommend using ISO 45001 as an opportunity to refresh your Safety Management System while considering a digital transformation strategy to help get buy-in from management and the rest of the organization to strengthen / rebuilt a culture of safety at your organization.  BSI ISO 45001 Mapping Guide
